"As busy as a one-armed paperhanger"
Your little will:
- Learn that numbers represent and describe quantity by associating the numbers (numerals) to the number of (color-coded) dots in the spaces for each numeral puzzle piece
- Learn than numbers represent and describe quantity by associating the numbers (numerals) to the number of color-coded rings that go on the dowel above each number
- Review shapes, numbers and colors
- Explore matching by two attributes: color and shape
- Practice sorting by color using the rings
- Learn that one number corresponds to one object by counting as they place each ring on the dowel
- Visualize and reinforce numbers as quantities by seeing the progressive height of the dowels and stacks of rings, as well as the number of dots in each numeral puzzle piece space
- Practice fine-motor skills (fitting pieces), hand-eye coordination, and problem-solving
- Reinforce the recognition of number/counting order and how numbers (numerals) are written
- Explore math operation symbols (plus, minus, times, divided by, greater than/less than)
- Be able to use the rings off of the dowels and explore counting, adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing
- Practice writing basic equations using the operators
Specifications
- Made mostly of wood (rings are made of plastic)
- Weighs approximately 0.5 kg
- Measures approximately 39.5 cm (L) x 14.5 cm (H)
- Three dimensional board with dowels increasing in height corresponding to increasing numbers
- Loose parts consist of numbers 1-10, 10 shapes and math operation symbols, and 55 rings
- Note that there is no "equals" sign and the greater than sign can be flipped to use as a "less than" sign
- Puzzle cavities for the shapes and math operators have a color-coded visual hint as well the picture of the matching shape inside
- Puzzle cavities for the numerals have a color-coded visual hint and number of dots corresponding to the numeral
- Rings are color coded to the numerals directly below them to give a visual hint about how many should be placed on the dowel
Safety
Due to small parts and maturity, best for children over 3 unless under direct adult supervision.
